MATERA
Matera is an ancient city and its origin is lost in prehistory.
For the substrate consisting of living in caves dug into the tufa rock is known as the "underground city" and for the continuity of life from the Paleolithic to the present day is considered one of the oldest in the world. For the first nomadic peoples which appeared on
Murgia was followed by other pastoralists who stared around the water tank called provident Lurio, and mainly on Timone, Murgecchia and on the hill of the "Civita", occupying caves and villages in organizing entrenched. In a succession of freedom and awe with the various stories of redemption and sales, Matera, who was part of the Terra d'Otranto, in 1663 was chosen as the seat of the Royal Audience of Basilicata, and aggregate this region, it remained the capital until 1806. MONTESCAGLIOSO
The origin of the town is lost in time; Montescaglioso seems to be kind "from the ruins of Metaponto. On an old Basilian monastery, was built the Benedictine Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo XI sec.) BERNALDA
Heir to the Camarda, was built in the fifteenth century, taking the name of his feudal lord, Bernardino de Bernaudo, who built the castle, round towers, on an old Norman fort. In the square, the castle and the source of this contemporary, there is the mother church dedicated to St. Bernardino of Siena, patron saint of the country. Along
Corso Umberto, c pulsating soul of the community, along with several stately palaces, we find the monastery of San Antonio (XVII sec.) currently the Town Hall. To visit is the gallery of modern and contemporary art housed in several rooms in the castle.

PISTICCI
It stands on a clay hill, from which the view extends over the entire plain of Basento to the peaks of the massif of Pollino. Around the wheat fields and olive groves seem to defy the hostile nature of the gullies that makes the landscape beautiful and disturbing. The origin of the town is uncertain, but findings are proof of the existence as early as the sixth century. a. C.. The country is characterized by the appearance of white houses with front gables and ordered file. Terravecchia in the district, partly destroyed in 1688 by a landslide, is the mother church of SS Peter and Paul built in sec. XVI on the ruins of an earlier century. XII. Near the old church tower is visible round the plant, Dark Tower, called the Beggars, possibly of Norman origin. The castle, which is also Norman, of the eleventh century was built by Robert Guiscard Count Montescaglioso.
